Jerry Brown (1942)

Jerry Brown is a ninth generation potter from West Alabama. Jerry has over 50 years experience in working with rich Alabama clay.

Over the half-century that Jerry has shaped clay, he has developed techniques which are particular to his work alone.

He is not a typical "Studio" potter in that he digs his own clay and processes it with an old-fashioned "pug mill" which is also traditionally powered -- by a mule! He fires his work in a ground-hog kiln.

He creates many things such as candelsticks, vases, and dinnerware, but his face jugs are highly prized among collectors. The excellence of Jerry’s work has won him a National Heritage fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts.
