Paul Flack

Paul Flack is what we in the South call a "Transplated Yankee." He was born in Brooklyn New York , and in the 1970s, he fulfilled his dream of living outside the confines of the city and moved to Georgia.

Shortly after moving, Paul attended the annual Outsider Art Event "Folk Fest" in Atlanta. It was there that he came across the inspirationalRobyn "The Beaver" Beverland. Paul was stricken with the purity and deep connection between the artist and his art. Paul was also suffering from depression over the loss of the American Urban Lifestyle to the blight of poverty and crime, and he was also plagued by various health problems. He began to seek truth.

From his inspiration at Folk Fest, Paul started gathering scrap wood and cast-off objects from which to create his art. Taking inspiration from visionaries like   Howard Finster, Paul began to paint. Angels and spiritual themes dominated his work. Animals were also a constant source of inspiration such as the two allligators displayed here.

Paul uses many household items as tools. Among these are ketchup bottles, Windex bottles,  and old  toothbrushes. He is especially partial to joint compound on wafer board and has found many uses for broken mirror shards in his work. Take a look at the teeth on these two alligators!

Paul is not only a talented artist, but a person that has within him the heart to help others to succeed.

Paul lives and works in Georgia and is very active in helping other artists like himself to succeed. He also a shameless promoter of all self-taught art. He is a constant source of encouragement for visionary artists.

Pauls work is in many private collections and museums. Here is a partial list:

Hurn Museum, Savannah, Georgia - Permanent Collection
Work chosen for the theme of the 2006 Mennello Museum 5th Annual Orlando Folk Festival
Annual participant Fearrington Folk Art Festival
Founder of The Who-Ha Da-Da Outsider Artists' Fellowship-dedicated to promoting and sustaining the vernacular Southern visual art culture.
