Lonnie Holley (1950)

There just is not enough room on this page to describe the life and work of Lonnie Holley. Lonnie was instrumental in Bill Arnett's journeys though the South to find genuine untrained artists. He was responsible for leading Arnett to several of the artists that are cataloged in "Souls Grown Deep" (available on our books page) and is a respected artist in his own right.

Lonnie works in just about every medium there is. He makes carvings from sandstone, assembles large metal yard art, and is a talented painter. He is also a fixture at the "Kentuck Festival of the Arts" in Northport, Alabama, where he exhibits his work and instructs children in carving sandstone. His work is represented in many museums and private collections across the United States. Lonnie is considered to be one of the most prominent American Folk Artists living today.
